Horst Geckeler

Horst Geckeler (born October 4, 1935 in Sulz am Neckar , † November 2, 2002 in Münster ) was a German Romance studies and linguist.

life and work

Geckeler studied Romance languages ​​and English in Tübingen, Paris, Leicester, Perugia, Siena and Santander. He received his doctorate in 1969 as an assistant (since 1965) to Eugenio Coseriu in Tübingen with Zur Wortfelddiskussion. Investigations into the structure of the word field old, young, new in today's French (Munich 1971). After visiting professorships in Mérida (Venezuela) and Pamplona, ​​he completed his habilitation in 1973 in Tübingen . In 1974 he turned down a call to Siegen and followed the call to the linguistic Romance professorship in Münster (succeeding Heinrich Lausberg ). He taught there until his retirement in 2000. Geckeler was dean from 1977 to 1978 and from 1987 to 1990, and from 1984 to 1992 he was elected expert reviewer of the German Research Foundation .
