Horst Hanske

Horst Hanske (born May 15, 1935 in Ratibor ; † January 13, 2016 ) was a German photojournalist and racing cyclist .

Life

After his family had fled from Silesia in 1945, Hanske came to Regensburg . After primary school he completed an apprenticeship as a chemigrapher at the “ Mittelbayerische Zeitung ”, attended the master school in Munich and specialized in photography.

Hanske also worked as an amateur cyclist. In 1957 he won the Upper Palatinate road championship and the one-day race “Around Kelheim”. In the same year Hanske took part in the stage race of the GDR Tour as a member of the Bavarian State Association and finished 14th. The following year he started the three-country stage race Internationale Friedensfahrt , in which he finished 42nd as the second best driver of the German team. In 1959 Hanske took part in the GDR tour again and, this time starting for the Association of German Cyclists , came in 25th. In addition, this year he took part in the Tour of Tunisia , where he won a stage.

From 1968 to 1999 Hanske worked as an editor and photo journalist for the Regensburg newspaper “Die Woche”. He then worked as a freelance journalist. In 1965 and 1969 he was awarded the prize for sports and city photography. In 1975 he was awarded the cultural promotion prize of the city of Regensburg as a photographer , and from the 1980s onwards he published several books with his photographic work, his texts and reports as well as his drawings. At home and abroad he organized numerous exhibitions of his photographic and graphic work.
