Horst Maria Merz (born 1958 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German pianist , chansonnier , actor and musical director.

Life

Merz completed a teaching degree for music at the State Music Academy in Karlsruhe. 1992–1995 he took over the direction of the drama music at the Staatstheater Karlsruhe and from 1996 to 2002 as musical director the rehearsal of the revues at the Ettlingen Castle Festival .

As a founding member of the Berlin Comedian Harmonists , he was their pianist from 1997 to 2018 and played the role of "Erwin Bootz" in over 850 performances in the play "Veronika der Lenz ist da" at the Komödie am Kurfürstendamm , Berlin. Since 2018 he has played the alleged "Ludwig van Beethoven" in the turbulent musical two-person piece "Ludwig fun!" By Michael Postweiler as actor, pianist and singer, directed by David Merz.

On July 24th, 2019 he performed at the Verbier Festival, Switzerland as a chansonnier and actor alongside Daniel Hope , Thomas Hampson , Stéphane Logerot and Jean-Efflam Bavouzet in “Berlin 1938”.
