Horst Michna

Horst Michna (born September 19, 1954 in Hamborn ; † May 10, 2007 in Munich ) was a German doctor and sports scientist .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1973, Horst Michna served in the Bundeswehr until 1975 and retired as a lieutenant in the reserve. From 1975 to 1980 he studied biology and medicine at the Universities of Lübeck, Bochum, Würzburg, Cologne and sports at the German Sport University Cologne . He also devoted himself to rowing and won the German championship in 1976 and 1977 in a four-man without a helmsman.

From 1980 to 1983 he worked for his doctorate in the fields of cardiology , experimental morphology and sports medicine at the Sports University in Cologne. In, he received his doctorate in sports science with his dissertation on the ultrastructure of the tendons and their skeletal muscle connection: age changes - training adaptation - doping with anabolic steroids .

At the University of Lübeck from 1983 to 1986 he completed a doctoral degree in the subjects of biochemistry, anatomy and biology, around 1986 with the thesis The Monocyten - Macrophage System of Humans: Methodical Innovation - Theoretical Contributions - Experimental continuation in vitro and in vivo the doctorate of To acquire science. In 1987 he passed the preliminary medical examination at the Medical University of Lübeck.

In July 1995 he was appointed as a university professor at the Sport University Cologne at the Institute for Morphology and Tumor Research. In 2002 he took over the chair for health promotion at the Technical University of Munich . As an expert on doping issues, he has been a member of the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) since 2003. In this capacity he also participated in the drafting of an anti-doping law. In 2007 he was appointed director of the Institute for Doping Analysis and Sports Biochemistry in Kreischa near Dresden on January 1st .

He remained connected to rowing even after his active career as an athlete. So he looked after the German eighth in the rowing center Berlin as part of the preparations for the Olympics in Seoul in 1988. He was also active in the teaching committee of the German rowing association.

He died of cancer on May 10, 2007. He was married to Silke Isabel Metzelthin.
