Horst Schwarz (trumpeter)
Horst "Morsch" Schwarz (born January 16, 1939 in Offenbach am Main ) is a German jazz musician ( trumpet , also vocals , trombone , percussion , composition , arrangement ).
Live and act
Between 1957 and 1961, Schwarz received private lessons at the Moritz Döbert Conservatory in his hometown. In 1958 he founded his first band - the Bluenote Jazzboys . From 1959 to 1960 he also played the second cornet in the Barrelhouse Jazz Band . Under the influence of historical models, the Smokehouse Jazz Band was formed at the same time , in which Schwarz took over the management in 1961 after Reimer von Essen left the band. The band was first committed to swing , then to New Orleans jazz .
In 1971 he switched to the Barrelhouse Jazzband for Horst Dubuque , of which he is still a member today (2017). In the following years he also worked with the Ragtime Society around Klaus Pehl (2 LPs) and the Jazz Classics (2 LPs) and the Big Band Memories formation . In 1975 he was co-founder and until 1983 musical director of the Blue Rhythm Four. Today he heads a smaller swing formation, the Swing Messengers.
Arrangements and compositions by Schwarz such as “Barrelhouse Boogie”, “Margarita”, “Autumn in ceiling Pfronn” and “Barrelhouse Showboat” have shaped the style of the Barrelhouse jazz band. Louis Ford and his band recorded his composition “Take Us to the Mardi Gras ” in New Orleans in 2009 and released it on CD. Tom Lord records 89 recordings by Horst Schwarz between 1971 and 2012.
