Horst Weber (born June 29, 1911 in Reichenbach im Eulengebirge , † May 18, 1989 in Gießen ) was a German soil scientist .

Life

After graduating from high school, Horst Weber studied geodesy at the Technical University of Berlin from the winter semester 1930/31 . Here he joined the Corps Saxonia-Berlin. He later moved from Berlin to the Technical University of Breslau , where he was awarded a Dr. rer. nat. received his doctorate. He was badly wounded in World War II , causing him to lose an arm. Since the fifties of the 20th century, initially as a student of Hans Kuron , he dealt with the damage to arable land caused by soil erosion and its mapping . The usage horizon mapping he uses represents the most exact, albeit most labor-intensive, form of soil erosion damage mapping.

Weber completed his habilitation in 1955 at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen . On December 14, 1957, he was appointed associate professor at the Faculty of Agriculture at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen. He headed the Institute for Regional Culture he founded in 1956 until his retirement . In 1963 he wrote the obituary for Hans Kuron , the nestor of soil erosion research in Germany, in the magazine for cultural technology and land consolidation . His scientific work and the achievements of the Institute for Regional Culture were recognized in a detailed treatise on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Institute and its 70th birthday in 1981.
