The hospital in the Hundisburg district of Haldensleben is a former poor house . In the local register of monuments , the building from the 18th century is listed as an important monument in terms of cultural history ( welfare for the poor ) and urban planning.

location

The former poor house with the address Hauptstraße 30 is 50 meters away south of the Hundisburger Andreaskirche on the Hundisburger Kirchberg and borders the Kirchgarten.

history

The building known as the hospital dates back to 1717. It was built by the Alvensleben family , the owners of Hundisburg Castle at the time , just like the Hundisburger parsonage and the Schlosskrug, which were built around the same time . The building replaced a previous building, which was donated in 1586 by Ludolf X. von Alvensleben (at the same time as the hospital in Neugattersleben ).

This was preceded by the death of Ludolf X. von Alvensleben's second eldest son: Busso von Alvensleben (1553–1576), was killed in a dispute at a Thuringian castle of the Asseburg family . The Asseburgs were sentenced in court to pay the dead man's father a fine of 2,000 thalers, to which he added another 1,000 thalers and donated to the construction of the poor houses in Hundisburg and Neugattersleben.

In Hundisburg, on the road to Rottmersleben, there is a two-part and a meter high atonement cross , also under monument protection , that the vernacular wrongly attributes to the manslaughter of Busso von Alvensleben.

The hospital did not serve as a hospital; Elderly people in need were mainly taken in and cared for here. In addition, the Hundisburger Hospital regularly took care of five preliminary dates (church officials) and other poor people at the expense of the manor. Sometimes scholarships were also given to students in need.

After the Second World War

After the war, the hospital continued to function as a residential building for the elderly for a while. Adelheid von Nathusius, the daughter-in-law of Hermann Engelhard von Nathusius, also lived here from 1950 until her death in 1954 . Since the 2010s, the listed house has been renovated by a family living here in accordance with the listed buildings.

architecture

The building is constructed in a simple baroque style. It is two-story, plastered and divided into six window axes. In its cubature the house is characteristic of the street. The current top has been redesigned. The solid quarry stone building with a half-hip roof is designed in a simple and functional way, in keeping with its purpose. Originally there were only small rooms inside. The hospital was equipped with a black kitchen .
