The Geral de Luanda State Hospital in the Kilamba Kiaxi district of Luanda is one of the largest and most modern hospitals in Angola .

history

The hospital, built by a Chinese construction company, opened in 2006. However, due to massive construction errors, it had to be completely torn down. The underground watercourses were not taken into account when building the foundations. On the basis of a government agreement with the Chinese government, China Tiesiju Civil Engineering Group began building the new building in 2012. A secretary from the Chinese embassy supervised the building site. The two-storey new building was expanded from the original 8,000 m² to 22,000 m². It was inaugurated in mid-2015 and had 300 beds, 42 doctors, 155 nurses and 82 technical employees. They are supported by a team of 10 doctors from different specialties from China and 17 doctors from Cuba . However, there is still a shortage of 150 doctors and around 800 nurses. 800 patients could be treated daily. At the beginning of 2019, the number of beds was 350, of which 17 were in the intensive care unit, plus 101 baby cradles. The average daily number of patients was 1500, of whom 950 were in the emergency room.

Subjects

In addition to general medicine , it also has the departments of surgery , trauma surgery , orthopedics , pediatrics , gynecology and obstetrics , internal medicine , neurology , cardiology , dermatology , ophthalmology , ENT and physiotherapy . A dialysis center was set up at the beginning of 2020 . The Chinese doctors also introduced acupuncture as a treatment method. Over 200 patients are treated in the emergency department every day. In addition to clinical laboratories, digital X-rays , echocardiography , colposcopy and computed tomography are available for diagnosis . Most of the patients suffer from malaria and seasonal respiratory diseases .
