Hotel Books is a solo music project by the American musician Cameron Smith from Porterville , California .

history

Cameron "Cam" Smith, born on February 16, 1993 in Porterville , California , first appeared in 2011 under the pseudonym Hotel Books when he released the EP Call Me Human on the independent label Dead Letters Collective in December . Two years later, a compilation was released under the name Everything We Could Have Done Differently , on which earlier EPs were re-recorded. There is also a 3-song split release with the group Endure on this compilation. The reason for the establishment of the music project was the processing of personal problems Smiths. He suffered from depression and an anxiety disorder .

The project signed a recording deal with InVogue Records and released the debut album I'm Almost Happy Here, But I Never Feel at Home on July 1, 2014 via the record company. It did not make it into the official album charts in the USA , but it did make it into the Alternative New Artists and the Heatseekers Charts , which are also determined by the music magazine Billboard . When I'm Almost Happy Here, But I Never Feel at Home is not it, this is a proper album, but a double-EP, which was released on a CD.

On April 7, 2015, the second album Run Wild, Young Beauty was released . Smith published a book with all the lyrics of previous releases of the music project, which could be ordered from InVogue Records or pre-ordered together with the album. On November 5, 2015, Smith announced that he would move into the studio with Craig Owens and Nick Ingram and work on a new album, which will be released in 2016.

Smith has toured the United States , Australia, and Europe . He and his group performed for bands such as Code Orange Kids , Being as an Ocean and even Whitechapel .

style

The music of the project is difficult to assign to a musical genre. The music can best be described as a mixture of ambient , post-hardcore , emo and melodic hardcore . The instruments take a back seat at Hotel Books to give the voice of Cameron Smith a podium. The lyrics and the singing of Smith are described as poetic . The voice of Cameron Smith is striking in the project, who mostly uses spoken word in the style of Spoken Word , which is very unusual for the music. In an interview with Indie Vision Musik , he described the project as an offering to God. He also said, however, that his aim is not just to publish “music for Christians”.

Musician

Even if the music project is attributed to Cam Smith, he said in an interview with Indie Vision Music that this is a joint music project with guitarist Kevin Glaudel.
