The Gasthof Zur Post in Ruhpolding is a cultural monument in the Bavarian district of Traunstein . It was opened as a post office station in 1308 .
history
In the age of stagecoach journeys and transports, numerous stations were opened in Germany where the horses were looked after and where they could rest, if necessary a change was also possible. At the same time, the operators of the post stations took care of the transport of written messages and the physical well-being of the coachmen and fellow travelers. This is how a post office came into being in what was then peaceful Ruhpolding . 1424 this became a tavern in which, among others, a post office and a small located inn were. According to the list of monuments, the building complex was given the current appearance of the 21st century in 1835. Some older parts of the building from the 17th / 18th century. Century have been preserved, including the Jägerstüberl with a historic wooden beam ceiling .
Later, the owners of the inn had additions made, resulting in the large post room with a cabaret , a wellness area with sauna and a small swimming pool and, in the 21st century, a wine cellar and a Zen garden to the rear of the building . The large post room is often used for public cultural events.
The Gasthof Zur Post has been owned by the Rechl family since the 17th century, and in 1993 they had the Posthof built on the opposite side of the main street as an extension of their accommodation facilities. The outside is typical of the area, inside there are spacious apartments.
description
The very massive hotel building with three full floors and a converted attic is completed with a half- hipped roof. It is covered with slate on a wooden substructure. The various extensions can be recognized by the angular structure and the different ridge heights. The facades facing the main street are striking - between the second and fourth floors, depictions of rural life in earlier centuries extend on both sides of a central window: in the first picture field work (a reaper , a farmer with rake), food processing (bread, milk) , Chickens and in the second picture forest work, namely a hunter, a forester, a horned sleigh to bring home the felled tree trunks from the slopes. These country idylls are executed as Lüftlmalerei .
The facade painting was continued at the post office opposite: here you can see a stagecoach with two powerful horses, a postillon and two travelers who are just stopping at the post office and are greeted by the host. - It is not known when the pictures were taken, but they are well restored.
On a narrow bed between the street and the house wall there is an upright source stone that the host family maintains.
