House Peters Jr.
Robert House Peters, Jr. (born January 12, 1916 in New Rochelle , † October 1, 2008 in Los Angeles ) was an American actor. His most famous role was the portrayal of the advertising character "Mr. Clean "(in German: Meister Proper ).
biography
House Peters Jr. grew up in Beverly Hills as the son of silent film actors House Peters senior and Mae King Peters. Even in high school , he began to be interested in acting. After graduating, he starred in the films Hot Tip and the Gene Autry vehicle Public Cowboy No. 1 with. He also starred in several episodes of the first Flash Gordon series. During World War II he served in the US Air Force . Then he worked again as a film actor, mainly in supporting roles in TV series and B-films . He played the sheriff Jim Billings in twelve episodes of the Lassie series .
In the 1950s and 1960s, Peters embodied the first “Mr. Clean ”and thus shaped the image of the well-trained, bald advertising figure for the Procter & Gamble group . The cleaning agent in question was marketed in German-speaking countries under the name Meister Proper . The cartoon character in the German commercials is based on the portrayal of House Peters Jr.
In 2000, Peters received the Golden Boot Award Backbone of the B’s for his achievements in the B-movie westerns genre . In the same year he published his autobiography Another Side of Hollywood .
