Hovedstadens Lokalbaner A / S (HL) is an amalgamation between five North Zealand private railway companies and the former DSB route Lille Nord between Hillerød and Helsingør .

The company was founded on July 1, 2001. The transport company Movia is the majority shareholder. Movia also founded the company Lokalbanen A / S to operate and maintain the vehicles, while HL is the owner of the lines and the vehicles.

As part of a reorganization on January 1, 2009, HL became a subsidiary of local banks . On this occasion, which was Østsjællandske Jernbaneselskab the newly founded company Regionstog A / S transferred.

On 1 July 2015 merged Regionstog A / S and Lokalbanen A / S as the new company Lokaltog includes that all former private railway companies in Zealand and Lolland and since then the distances of Hovedstadens Lokalbaner A / S operates.
