Hundested [ ˈhunəsdɛð ] is a Danish town in the Hovedstaden region on Sjælland .
It was once located in the official municipality of Frederiksborg . Today, Hundested Municipality and Frederiksværk make up Halsnæs Municipality , which was called Frederiksværk-Hundested Municipality until the end of 2007. The city consists of Hundested with a larger port and Lynæs with a smaller port. It is located at the entrance to the Roskildefjord on the Baltic Sea .
On January 1, 2020 the population was 8,616 people.
The economic structure is characterized by agricultural industry, fishing and trade. There is also a smaller commercial port.
One of the tourist attractions is the house of the polar explorer Knud Rasmussen and the village of Kikhavn with its historic center.
