Hoya curtisii is a plant of the genus of wax flowers ( Hoya ) of the subfamily of asclepiadoideae (Asclepiadoideae).

Hoya curtisii grows as a twisting, epiphytic , perennial herbaceous plant . The shoot axes measure only about 0.2 cm in diameter. The opposite leaves are stalked short. The fleshy to slightly succulent, simple leaf blade is almost rounded or elliptical with a long, drawn-out tip. The surface is dark green with numerous silvery spots. The leaves measure 1.5 cm in length and 1.5 to 2 cm in width.

The inflorescence contains up to about 30 flowers (10 to 25 flowers). The hermaphrodite, radially symmetrical, five-fold flower has a diameter of about 2 cm. When fully open, the five petals are bent back, but slightly curved inward. The top is densely hairy. The color varies from dull yellow, greenish yellow to yellowish brown. The secondary crown is creamy white with a red center.

Distribution and systematics

Hoya curtisii occurs in the Philippines , Thailand and Malaysia .

The holotype specimen was found in October 1892 by C. Curtis near Taiping (State of Perak , Malaysia) and deposited in the herbarium of the Singapore Botanical Gardens. Hoya curtisii is named after Charles Henry Curtis . The first description of Hoya curtisii was made in 1908 by George King and James Sykes Gamble in the Journal of the Asiatic Society of Bengal , Part 2, Natural History Calcutta, p 563. A synonym for Hoya curtisii King & Gamble is Hoya pruinosa (flower) Miquel.
