The Hrad , sometimes also Hradiště (German local mountain ) is a 940 m high mountain in the Bohemian Forest in the Czech Republic . It is located six kilometers northwest of Horní Planá in the area of the Boletice military training area .

Location and description

The rocky ridge, lined with forest, rises to the left above the Vltava valley . It is located on the southern edge of the Boletice military training area in the Maňávka u Českého Krumlova district and is part of the Želnavská hornatina. At the southern and western foot of the Hrad, the state road I / 39 runs between Volary and Horní Planá. To the north rise the Höllenberg and the Bulov ( Ochsenberg , 966 m nm), in the northeast the Große Ochsenberg (986 m nm), the Hvězda ( Großer Sternberg , 1145 m nm) and the Nad Hospodárnicí (1182 m nm), east of the Kapradinec ( Fahrenberg , 1083 m nm), in the southeast the Houba (864 m nm), west of the Bělský vrch ( Great Mountain , 782 m nm) and in the northwest of the Želnavský vrch ( Salnauer Berg , 815 m nm). The Želnavský stream rises on the northern slope of the Hrad; to the east is the valley of the Pernecký potok. The Hrad offers no view because of the high population of trees.

Surrounding places are Maňava and Pernek in the southeast, Hory in the south, Kovárna and Nové Chalupy in the southwest, Bělá , Vltava and Ovesná in the west and Želnava and Slunečná in the northwest. The U Riedla desert (Riedelhütte ) is located in the north and the U Bárty (Schonauer) and Skelná Huť (glassworks) desert to the east .

history

In the Middle Ages there was a castle on the Hrad, about which there is no written mention. According to archaeological investigations, it was probably built in the 13th century and probably served as a royal watchtower above the upper Vltava valley up to the national border. Their builder is unknown, possibly a vassal.

The Prachatic historian František Kubů, on the other hand, takes the view that the Waltershausen Castle, which was previously not localizable, was located on the Hrad, which was built around 1360 by the Vyšehrad provost Dietrich von Portitz to protect the villages belonging to the Vyšehrad chapter. After the Goldenkron Monastery regained the areas that originally belonged to it in 1395, the castle lost its function and became extinct, according to Kubů's theory, which cannot be proven.

The primeval forest-like vegetation of the Hrad, which is still preserved today, with numerous half-broken trees, inspired the writer Hermann Schefczik to write the novel Goldenes Dying in 1922, which is set on the local mountain.

After the Second World War, the Boletice military training area was built in the 1950s.

Hausberk Castle

All that remains of the castle today are ramparts and moats as well as small overgrown wall remains. It is located on a 26 m wide spur and is accessible, but in 2005 prohibition signs prohibiting entry into the military area were put up again. The castle was accessed from the west via a five-meter-wide moat. Most of the castle complex was probably made of wood.

Say

There should be a treasure in the local mountain; During the Good Friday sermon in Želnava, a pile of gold and precious stones is said to be found inside.
