Hubert Ginzel

Hubert Ginzel (born September 17, 1874 in Reichenberg , † November 24, 1950 in Vienna ) was an Austrian officer and cartographer .

Hubert Ginzel was retired from the Technical Military Academy as a pioneer in 1896. From 1899 on he attended the kuk war school for two years . In 1907 Hubert Ginzel was on the general staff for mapping, in 1914 head of the 10th Department in the War Ministry . The cartographer at the Austro-Hungarian Military Geography Institute in Vienna was initially Chief of Staff of the Jaroslau infantry troop division when the First World War broke out . In 1915 the major was appointed commander of the Austro-Hungarian war surveying system. With effect from August 1, 1917, he was appointed colonel . After the end of the war, Ginzel took over the management of the Military Geographic Institute. The focus of his work was the continuation of the cartography of Austria and the creation of the topographic map of the Republic of Austria on a scale of 1: 50,000. Promoted to Hofrat , Ginzel headed the department for mapping and country description. Until his retirement in 1924, he was also the deputy group leader in matters relating to the state registration.
