Hubertus Chapel (Ostbevern)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Hubertus chapel is the chapel of the castle Loburg and is since August 11, 1988, listed building . It was built together with the castle by Hermann Schaedtler between 1900 and 1901 and served as a house chapel for the von Beverförde family and all the staff at the castle and the Loburg estate .

description

The chapel is located on the eastern side of the castle on a square plan with a side length of seven meters. They loosen up the otherwise strict symmetry of the castle. On the other hand, the only counterpart is a bay window , the dimensions of which cannot be compared with the chapel. The chapel also does not reach the height of the roof of the castle, but rather culminates prematurely in a slate-covered dome roof , which is adorned with a simple black cross. From the outside, a relief of Saint Hubert is shown on the front .

Altarpiece

One enters the chapel through a side of the main entrance located neo-Baroque portal , on whose Supraporte the Holy Nepomuk stands. Opposite the entrance is a gallery for the baronial family, who took part in the service from there. They could follow the mass through a mirror attached to the side of the door. The chapel room is otherwise kept simple: the dome rests on four corner columns with Ionic convolutes of snails . The simple altar shows a picture of the discovery of Jesus in the temple. The namesake patrons of the builders, Karl Borromäus and Empress Adelheid , are shown in the two stained glass side windows .

Until the middle of the 20th century a chaplain, such as Bernard Neteler , regularly read mass in the chapel . Today the chapel is only used sporadically. Palm consecration takes place there regularly on Palm Sunday .
