It occurs in flowing waters and in the benthopelagial of the sea bay and reaches a length of up to 50 cm.

The fish, up to 50 cm long, is characterized by irregularly scattered points on the front half of the body. In the area of the dorsal fin it has a large dark spot on both sides at the level of the lateral line organ. The adipose and anal fin are pronounced, the caudal fin is relatively small. Distribution and habitats

Presumed distribution area of Hucho ishikawae

Hucho ishikawae occurs in the border region between North Korea and China including the Am-nok , Dok-ro, Weon-ju and Jang-jin rivers . The habitat thus extends from freshwater flowing waters to the benthopelagial of the sea bay containing salt.

In rivers it was found near the ground in clear water of pools below waterfalls and rapids.

Systematics

In addition to the Hucho ishikawae , three other species belong to the genus Hucho : Hucho Hucho , Hucho bleekeri , and the Taimen ( Hucho taimen ). These three species occur in Europe (Danube catchment area), China and Russia.

Within the salmon fish, the genus Hucho belongs to the subfamily Salmoninae and within this subfamily, together with its purely East Asian sister genus Brachymystax, it forms a systematic unit ( clade ) which is opposite to the other Salmoninae genera ( Oncorhynchus , Parahucho , Salmo , Salvelinus , Salvethymus ).
