Hugo Cadenbach (judge)

Hugo Cadenbach (born December 25, 1874 in Burtscheid , † December 3, 1943 in Aachen ) was a German district judge and entrepreneur.

Life

The son of the cloth manufacturer of the same name Hugo Cadenbach (1833–1899) and Henriette Bahn (1848–1929) graduated from high school in 1896 at the Kaiser-Wilhelms-Gymnasium in Aachen, today's Einhard-Gymnasium . He then studied law at the Universities of Freiburg i. Breisgau, Berlin and Bonn and received his doctorate in Leipzig in 1901.

After completing his studies, Cadenbach was accepted into the civil service and worked as a court assessor until 1904. He then moved to London , where he was employed in a bank and at the same time was able to pursue economic and legal studies in Oxford . For this purpose he went on a study trip to Canada and the USA in 1906 as well as to Mexico. From 1910 to 1914, Cadenbach held the office of District Court Councilor at the District Court of Elberfeld . During the First World War he was used as a captain in the Battle of Verdun , in which he was wounded. Awarded EK I and II he was discharged from military service as a major in the reserve.

In 1919 Cadenbach then also took his leave from the civil service, rising as a legal adviser in the Stolberger zinc , which appointed him in 1925 to the board and a year later the director general appointed. In addition, from 1920 he also took on a teaching position at RWTH Aachen University and was officially appointed honorary professor there in May 1925 for the field of mining, history of mining and mining law . Cadenbach remained a member of the teaching body until March 1941 and had since joined the NSDAP . A year later, on July 24, 1942, the university made him an honorary citizen.

Outside of his professional obligations, Cadenbach took on the duties of a freelance commercial judge and, after the merger in 1933, was a member of the Aachen and Stolberg Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Honorary Court of Commerce in the Rhineland district. He was also a member of the city council of Aachen as an appointed councilor from 1936. In addition, from 1930 to 1932 he was the founding president of the Rotary Club Aachen, founded on February 4, 1930, and a member of the Club Aachener Casino since 1902 . From 1932 to 1937 he was also the chairman of the board of the Evangelical Hospital Association in Aachen, responsible for the Luisenhospital Aachen .

Since 1899 Cadenbach was married to Maria Weidtman (1886-1967), daughter of the entrepreneur Victor Weidtman and sister of the banker Hans Weidtman . The couple had their son Hugo Cadenbach , who later made a career as a private banker and diplomat . The Hugo Cadenbach family found their final resting place in the hot mountain cemetery in Burtscheid / Aachen .
