Hugo Kocher

Hugo Kocher ( pseudonyms : Max Bram , Maria Hörmann , Ursula Kemmler , Heinrich Neckar ; born August 17, 1904 in Tübingen , † October 3, 1972 in Munich ) was a German writer and illustrator .

Life

Hugo Kocher graduated after attending the secondary school in Tübingen courses in painting and paper cutting at the local university . He then went on extensive trips to various European countries; he earned his living u. a. in Norway as an assistant in fishing and selling my own paintings . Kocher completed his artistic training at an art school in Düsseldorf and Geneva . He then worked as an illustrator.

After the success of his first book for young people in 1936, Hugo Kocher lived as a freelance writer and painter in Munich . From 1940 Kocher took part in the Second World War as a Wehrmacht soldier and was taken prisoner by the British . After his release he returned to Munich, where he again worked as a writer for young people.

Hugo Kocher was a successful author of numerous books for children and young people . The focus of his work was on narrative animal books , in which he drew on his experiences from many trips. In addition, he also wrote adventure books with exotic locations and - sometimes under a pseudonym - girls' books .

Hugo Kocher was married to Hedwig Erb (1906–1988), who was also a young adult author.
