Hugo Emil Schober (born July 3, 1820 in Waldau , Oberlausitz , † February 21, 1882 in Tharandt ) was a German agricultural scientist .

Live and act

Schober studied at the Agricultural Academy Eldena near Greifswald, probably did his doctorate at the University of Greifswald and then worked as a lecturer in Eldena for a few years. From 1847 he worked as a professor of agriculture at the Academy for Foresters and Farmers in Tharandt . From 1852 to 1870, ie until the transfer of agricultural studies to the University of Leipzig , he was also director of the agricultural department of this academy. From 1870 until his death, Schober was a professor of economics at the Bergakademie Freiberg .

As an agricultural scientist, Schober made a name for himself primarily through numerous books and writings. As his first publication, he published in 1843 a treatise on the history of the Agricultural Academy Eldena. His book on a theory of economic systems in agriculture (1846) should be highlighted from several business publications. His most extensive work is a four-volume, but incomplete textbook on agriculture for agriculture and state economics ... (1848–1855). In the small-format book Encyklopädie der Agricultural Science , published in 1856, he describes all areas of scientific agriculture and gives an excellent overview of the specialist literature. His practice-oriented text on the cultivation of tobacco and weaver carding (1856) is noteworthy .

From 1848 to 1849 Schober published the agricultural magazine and from 1850 to 1854 together with Julius Adolph Stöckhardt the magazine for German agriculture . Schober had been an honorary member of the Bavarian Agricultural Association since 1853 and of the Royal Hanoverian Agricultural Society in Celle since 1865. From 1862 he held the title of Hofrat . The Saxon politician and member of the state parliament Friedrich Maximilian Schober was his son.
