Hugo Weber (philologist)

Hugo Ernst Barthold Weber (born December 5, 1832 in Weißensee (Thuringia) , † May 19, 1904 in Eisenach ) was a German classical philologist , Germanist and headmaster in Eisenach.

The son of a mill owner received private tuition and from 1845 went to the Pforta State School , where he graduated from high school in 1851. After studying at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg , which he completed in 1855/1856 with a doctorate and the state examination, he completed his legal clerkship in Berlin. After a station in Halle in 1857, he went to the Gymnasium zu Mühlhausen in January 1861 , and Michaelis to the Wilhelm-Ernst-Gymnasium Weimar in 1861 . From 1881 to 1898 he was headmaster at the Carl-Friedrich-Gymnasium in Eisenach, today's Martin-Luther-Gymnasium . In addition, he dealt with classical philology, Baltic linguistics and German didactics . His German literary history , which he wrote in the spirit of the establishment of the Reich in 1871, was used until 1945. He was honored with the title of Hofrat in 1888 and the Privy Councilor in 1897 .
