Hugolinus Dörr SVD (born July 24, 1895 in Sellerbach ; † June 6, 1940 in Fort Asnières near Dijon ) was a Catholic missionary and a victim of National Socialism .

Life

Hugolinus Dörr attended the high school of the Missionshaus St. Wendel (today: Arnold-Janssen-Gymnasium St. Wendel ) from 1908 and passed his Abitur there. From 1913 he studied theology in Mödling near Vienna, interrupted by his work as a hospital clerk during World War I , and was ordained a priest on January 28, 1923.

After he had to cancel a trip to China due to illness, he returned to Saarland. He dealt with homeopathy , which the church forbade him. After the " seizure of power " he founded the Saarland Economic Association in 1933 with Jacob Hector and Carl Minster against the incorporation of the Saar region into the German Empire. On August 26, 1934, he gave a speech in a cassock to an audience of 60,000 at a meeting of the united front in Sulzbach. The Bishop of Trier, Franz Rudolf Bornewasser , publicly distanced himself from him. When the NSDAP won the Saar referendum, Dörr fled to France. After the beginning of the Second World War, he was interned with other Saar refugees in 1939 and murdered during the invasion of German troops ( Western campaign ).
