The Humbach is an approximately six kilometer long tributary of the Ilm in the Ilm district ( Thuringia ).
course
The source of the Humbach is located in a meadow northeast of Ilmenau, immediately east of the A 71 exit Ilmenau-Ost in the Bücheloh district . Below the town it forms a valley in which the B 87 and the Humbachsteiche are located.
The Humbachsteiche are artificial, rectangular ponds that are primarily used for fish farming. The 290-meter-long Humbach Valley Bridge , which is part of the route of the high - speed line from Nuremberg to Erfurt , runs across the valley .
The Humbach now continues to flow in an easterly direction and flows into the Ilm at Cottendorf .
Name meaning
There are no early documented mentions of the brook. Therefore it is not possible to determine whether the name comes from New High German dog or chicken. There are also completely different origins of names possible.
