Humbie is a hamlet in the southwest of the Scottish council area East Lothian or in the traditional county of Haddingtonshire . It is located about eleven kilometers southwest of Haddington and 19 km southeast of central Edinburgh off the western flank of the Lammermuir Hills .
history
To the northeast of Humbie is Keith Marischal House . The owner of the mansion , built in 1589, was George Keith, 4th Earl Marischal . Towards the end of the 17th century, the property fell to the Earls of Hopetoun , who expanded it. Possibly the nucleus of the stately country mansion Johnstounburn House, south of today's Humbie , originated in the 17th century .
The Humbie Parish Church was built around 1800 . In the 1860s, David Bryce redesigned the building. In 1905, the Children's Village was built on a hill outside Humbie, a recreational facility for disabled children. In 1968 a Christian group took over the facility. After irregularity, it passed to the Church of Scotland . There are now private apartments there.
In October 1939, British air units attacked a Heinkel He 111 of Kampfgeschwader 26 near Inchkeith , which was returning from an attack on the Firth of Clyde . The machine eventually crashed at Humbie. The machine, also known as the Humbie Heinkel , is the first Nazi-German aircraft to be shot down over British soil.
In 1991 there were 50 people in Humbie. This meant a decrease of 18 people since 1961.
traffic
About three kilometers southwest the Edinburgh runs with the English Darlington connecting A68 . In Humbie itself, the B6371 joins the B6368. This connects Humbie in Haddington to the A1 and A199 .
