The Hungchi (also Chakhung ) is a 7036  m (according to other sources 7029  m ) high mountain in the Himalayas on the border between the People's Republic of China and Nepal - 17.19 km west-northwest of Mount Everest .

The Hungchi is located south of the 5985  m high Nup La mountain pass . To the east, the ridge continues over the 6942  m high east summit ( ) to the Chumbu and Pumori . The western Rongpu glacier runs north of the Hungchi. The Ngojumba Glacier flows on the western flank . On the southeast flank lies the nutrient zone of the Gyhubanare Glacier , a tributary glacier of the Ngojumba Glacier.

Ascent history

The Hungchi was first climbed on April 19, 2003 by a Japanese expedition. The leader of the expedition was Takashi Shiro. Expedition participants who reached the summit were Kanji Shimizu, Tadashi Morita and Katsuo Fukuhara as well as the Nepalese Sirdar Tul Bahadur Tamang and the porters Ram Kaji Tamang, Hitman Tamang and Santaman Tamang. The ascent route led over the southwest ridge to the summit.

Today there are mountain tours on the Hungchi offered.
