The Huntava (German Hangenbach ) is a river in the east of the Czech Republic .

geography

It rises at the foot of the Jeseníky Mountains near Stříbrné Hory in the Moravian-Silesian Region on the southeast slope of Kamenný vrch ( Steinhübel , 773  m ) at 742  m above sea level. NN . The Huntava flows through Stříbrné Hory and Skály. South of Horní Město the river enters a deep, forested and almost uninhabited valley. The mountains that line both sides reach a height of about 500  m above sea level. NN . After about three kilometers it passes the village of Rešov and after 13.3 kilometers it flows into Valšův Důl at 297  m above sea level. NN in the Oslava . From there, its water reaches the Oskava and finally the March . The Huntava has a catchment area of ​​27 km² and an average water flow of 0.23 m³ / s at the mouth.

The headwaters of the Skalský potok tributary were declared a nature reserve of Skalské rašeliniště in 1970 to protect the rare swamp vegetation there. Another protected area is located near Rešov, the 71.61 hectare National Natural Monument Rešovské vodopády, proclaimed in 1989 . Its core is a gorge about 200 meters long and 10 meters wide, in which the Huntava overcomes a zone of solid volcanic rocks ( porphyroids ) in a series of waterfalls . The highest cascade is 10 meters high, the surrounding rock walls rise up to 20 meters from the bottom of the gorge. The waterfalls are accessible all year round via hiking trails, wooden bridges and footbridges and are a well-known tourist attraction.
