Horní Město (German mountain town ) is a municipality in the Czech town of Okres Bruntál .

Geographical location

It is located in the Sudetes in the headwaters of the Huntava river , five kilometers southwest of Rýmařov at the foot of the Jeseníky Mountains at an altitude of 550 m above sea level. M.

Community structure

The municipality Horní Město includes the districts Dobřečov ( Doberseik ), Rešov ( Reschen ), Skály ( Hangenstein ) and Stříbrné Hory ( Neufang ) with the settlement Ferdinandov ( Ferdinandsthal ), which was dissolved in 1965 .

history

The place emerged as a mining settlement on a rich silver site in 1351. In 1398 the neighboring settlement of Hangstein, later called Hangenstein , followed. In 1580 Bergstadt was granted the privileges of an imperial free mining town by Emperor Rudolf II .

On December 1, 1930, the city of Bergstadt had 1,296 inhabitants, on May 17, 1939 there were 1251 and on May 22, 1947 674 inhabitants.

With the Munich Agreement in 1938 Bergstadt was assigned to the German Reich ; in 1945 Bergstadt belonged to the district of Römerstadt in the administrative district of Troppau in the Reichsgau Sudetenland .

The Germans were expropriated in 1945 and from mountain town sold .

Culture and sights

  • The church of St. Maria Magdalena was built in 1611 and decorated with valuable paintings in 1690 by the painter Weintritt.
