Karlovice (German Karlsthal ) is a municipality with 1,128 inhabitants (January 1, 2004) in the Czech Republic .

location

The community is located in the Jeseníky Mountains in the Oppa valley . Karlovice is part of the Vrbensko microregion. The village center of the elongated place in the Okres Bruntál is located five kilometers southeast of Vrbno pod Pradědem at an altitude of 478 m above sea level. M.

Community structure

Karlovice includes the district of Zadní Ves ( Neukarlsthal , also Hinterdorf ) and the corridors of the former villages Adamov ( Adamsthal ) and Nové Purkartice ( Neubürgersdorf ).

Adamsthal

The village of Adamsthal had 521 inhabitants in 1850, 415 inhabitants and 67 houses in 1880, 291 inhabitants and 70 houses in 1900, 262 inhabitants and 68 houses in 1921, 285 inhabitants and 64 houses on December 1, 1930, 262 inhabitants on May 17, 1939, all Germans .

From August to October 1946, all Germans who stayed or returned after the Second World War were expelled from Adamsthal - a total of 207, to Bavaria, Hesse and Württemberg.

At the end of 1945, Slovaks and a few Czechs came; on May 22, 1947 Adamov had 104 residents. After 1948 most of the new settlers left, in 1949 the last. In 1950 Adamov had no more residents. There were still twelve houses standing, some of which were demolished in 1951, the rest were used as agricultural buildings. In 1952/53 Adamov was deleted from the books as a municipality, in 1957/58 all remains of the wall and buildings were completely razed.

Karlovice

Freudenstein Castle, built in the 13th century , once stood above the village . The first settlement took place quite late in 1527. The first documentary evidence comes from 1558, at that time under the name Hütten . This village was wiped out in the Thirty Years War . After 1720 hammer mills were built in the village that were in operation until the 19th century . The name Karlsthal was the founder the Duke of Jägerndorf Karl von Liechtenstein derived (Karel z Lichtenštejna) and the hammer works (Karl-steel). Wood and paper processing companies settled here later. Today the village is a center for local recreation and tourism. The municipality of Karlsthal had 1694 inhabitants on December 1, 1930, 1698 on May 17, 1939 and only 943 inhabitants on May 22, 1947.

After the Munich Agreement , the place was added to the German Empire and until 1945 belonged to the Freudenthal district .

The German residents were expropriated and expelled after 1945.
