history

A hammer mill was built on the site of today's village in 1640 and ore was mined on the Kupferberg. In 1662 the landlord Sylvius Nimrod von Württemberg-Teck founded the place Karlsberg, in which ten hammer people could settle with their families.

Neurode and Karlsberg formed a parish with Rautenberg since 1656 , which had its seat in Rautenberg. From 1726 there is evidence of a branch church 2.5 km away from Karlsberg, which was renovated in 1881. In 1905 Neurode also received a church.

After the replacement of patrimonial Neurode came to the district of Bärn from 1850 and in 1868 the incorporation of Karlsberg took place. In 1881 Neurode received its own village school. In 1939 there were 271 people living in Neurode with Karlsberg, of which 269 were Catholics and 2 Protestants. Almost all of the residents of the village worked in the copper hammer, and agriculture was also practiced. On December 1, 1930, the village of Neurode had 261 residents and on May 22, 1947 there were 126 residents. The Germans were expropriated and driven out in 1945. In the 1960s it was incorporated into Bruntál; since 1993 Nová Pláň has been an independent municipality again. As a result of the dam construction, parts of the village and the Karlovec district were flooded. Only the chapel of Karlovec remained.

Today the place is used almost exclusively for recreational purposes due to its location at the dam. The copper hammer no longer exists, the largest employer is a forestry company. The church, which fell into disrepair after the Second World War , was renovated and converted into a hotel restaurant.
