Hur Jae (born September 28, 1965 in Seoul ) is a former South Korean basketball player and coach since retiring . He was active from the late 1980s through the mid 2000s. At the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, Hur took the Olympic oath .

In 1988, Hur Jae became a member of the amateur basketball team at automaker Kia Motors . In the same year he took part in the Olympic Games taking place in Seoul . During the opening ceremony he spoke the Olympic oath of the athletes together with handball player Son Mi-na . With the national team, he reached ninth place among the twelve teams in the Olympic tournament. Between 1988 and 1996 he was national champion seven times with the Kia Motors team. At the 1990 World Cup , Hur Jae scored 62 points in the game against Egypt, which is still a record number of points for a single player in a World Cup game. However, it was the placement game for the penultimate place, in which both teams hardly showed any commitment in defense due to the low value of the game outcome. Hur Jae was a participant in the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta . There he reached fifth place with his team. Hur Jae ended his career with the Wonju TG Xers team in 2004. Since June 2005, he has coached the Jeonju KCC Egis . He has also been the national coach of South Korea since 2009, but only achieved a disappointing 7th place at the 2009 Asian Cup .
