The Huronensee nature reserve is located in the area of the independent city of Münster in North Rhine-Westphalia .
The area extends northeast of the core city of Münster. The B 219 runs to the west and the Dortmund-Ems Canal flows on the eastern edge of the area . The 228.2 hectare nature reserve (NSG) Rieselfelder Münster extends northwest and the 12.39 hectare NSG Gelmerheide to the west .

Since 1937 an area of 10.45 hectares has been designated as a nature reserve for Münster under the identification number MS-002. The area was placed under protection for the conservation of
- two near-natural bodies of water with pronounced floating leaf communities in the Huronensee and narrow fringes of broken forest
- Old wood stocks on the dry locations.
