Abdullah joined the NFL Draft in 2008 but was not signed by any team during the draft. The Minnesota Vikings took the rookie under contract after the draft. For the first two seasons, Safety was only a substitute, but he played almost every game and came up with around one tackle per game. After the touchdown, Abdullah had slipped on his knees and pressed his head to the ground for a brief prayer, which received a 15-yard unsporting penalty as the rules forbade walking on the ground while cheering. The punishment sparked controversy on social media and was retrospectively declared flawed by the NFL as the cheering was acceptable as a religious expression.
