Hypericum perfoliatum is a plant from the genus of hypericum ( Hypericum ).

features

Hypericum perfoliatum is a perennial stem hemicryptophyte that reaches heights of (15) 25 to 75 centimeters. The stem is strong and erect or ascending. The leaves measure 1.3 to 60 × 15 millimeters and are heart-shaped, encompassing stems, translucent and dotted with black. The sepals have long-stalked glands and are upright with fruit. The capsule is egg-shaped and has protruding glands.

The flowering period extends from March to June.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 14.

Occurrence

Hypericum perfoliatum occurs mainly in the Mediterranean region from Macaronesia to southwestern Turkey. The species grows in the Phrygana , in steppe lawns, on fallow land, in damp, shady ruderal areas on deep loam at altitudes from 0 to 2000 meters.
