Hyphoderma transiens is a mushroom species from the family of the fold relatives (Meruliaceae). It forms carpet-like, membranous fruiting bodies of pink-whitish color and grows on bedecktsamern . The species is common in Eurasia and South America .

features

Macroscopic features

Hyphoderma transiens has resupinate, membranous-waxy fruiting bodies typical of the genus Hyphoderma . They are whitish to ocher in color, have a light yellow or white border and are extremely thin. Their hymenium is partly smooth, partly covered with small teeth.

Microscopic features

As with all Hyphoderma species, the hyphae structure of Hyphoderma transiens is monomitic, i.e. it only has generative hyphae . The 2–5  µm wide hyphae are hyaline and thin-walled. The septa always have buckles . The cystids are sub-cylindrical, not encrusted and are around 50–70 × 6–8 µm in size, so they do not protrude beyond the fruit layer. The basidia of the species are narrow club- to approximately urn-shaped, slightly waisted, have four sterigmata and measure 20–30 × 5–7 µm. They have a buckle at the base . Their spores are narrow cylindrical to approximately sausage-shaped, hyaline and thin-walled. They measure 9–13 × 3–4.5 µm.

distribution

The known distribution of the species includes Eurasia and South America .

ecology

Hyphoderma transiens grows on dead wood of deciduous trees and shrubs. Substrates include holm oak ( Quercus ilex ) and red beech ( Fagus sylvatica ).
