Hypocenomyce scalaris ( synonym : Lecidea scalaris ) is a species of lichen from the Ophioparmaceae family that ismore common in Central Europe andgrows on tree bark.

description

The crusty, scaly bed of Hypocenomyce scalaris consists of small, clam- like scales, arranged like roof tiles, with a diameter of about 1.5 mm. These are bent up at the front and sorediose at the hem . The color varies from light brown or ocher to gray or olive brown. The relatively rare apothecia , up to 2 mm wide, have black and bluish frosting.

distribution

The species is found in Central Europe above all in higher altitudes, where it populates in particular the acidic bark of conifers or oaks. The distribution area extends from the coniferous forests of the northern boreal zone to the mountains of the Mediterranean region. As an acidophilic species, which is relatively insensitive to harmful substances, it is promoted by acid immissions ; it is less common in limestone areas.
