Hypochaeris cretensis is a species of plant in the genus Hypochaeris in the sunflower family (Asteraceae).

Hypochaeris cretensis is a perennial shaft hemicryptophyte that reaches heights of 10 to 40, rarely up to 85 centimeters. There is at least one large linear leaf on the stem . Most of the leaves are pinnately lobed or fringed . The shell is not very bristly and mostly star-haired. The marginal fruits are 5.5 to 6 millimeters in size. The fringes of hair on the inner fruit, 7.5 to 10 millimeters long, are hairy and 5 to 6 millimeters long. The pappus of the outer fruits is partly identical to that of the inner fruits, partly it consists of scales that are fringed and about 0.15 millimeters long.

The flowering period extends from April to July.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 6.

Occurrence

Hypochaeris cretensis occurs in the northeastern Mediterranean region. It occurs in Italy, Sicily, Corsica, Sardinia, Malta, Montenegro, Albania, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Greece and Crete. The species grows on stony and dry slopes as well as on mountain meadows. In Crete it can be found at altitudes of 10 to 1100 meters.
