Hypocreopsis rhododendri ( English hazel gloves ) is a type of mushroom from the family of the crustball relatives .

description

The English common name hazel gloves is due to the similarity of its orange-brown, ray-shaped lobes with a rubber glove and its colonization by the common hazel ( Corylus avellana ).

distribution

Hypocreopsis rhododendri occurs on the oceanic west coasts of Great Britain and Ireland , in the Atlantic Pyrenees in southwest France and in the Appalachians in the eastern United States .

habitat

In the Appalachian Mountains, H. rhododendri was originally found growing on rhododendron maximum , then also on Kalmia latifolia and various oak species.

In Europe , H. rhododendri is found in Atlantic hazel bushes, mainly on hazel stems. Finds of rhododendron species have never been described here.

Hosts

Although H. rhododendri occurs on lignified shoot axes, it was found that it is not a wood-destroying fungus , but a parasite of the wood-destroying fielded bristle disk ( Hymenochaete corrugata ).
