Styne and Cahn wrote (It Seems) It Seems I Heard That Song Before for Youth on Parade (1942, directed by Albert S. Rogell ), starring John Hubbard, Ruth Terry and Martha O'Driscoll. In the film, the song was introduced by Martha O'Driscoll, dubbed Margaret Whiting . The song received an Oscar nomination for Best Song in 1943 .

Covered by Vera Lynn and Johnny Jones And His Orchestra (Hit Record 7038), and also by the Harry James Orchestra with band vocalist Helen Forrest (Columbia 36668). It was recorded on July 31, 1942, the day before the recording ban , and reached position 1 in both the pop and R&B charts in the United States. In 1943, the song was also in the band repertoire of Kay Kyser's swing orchestra , Tommy Dorsey , Benny Carter , Bob Chester , Freddie Slack and in Europe by Eddie Brunner and Thore Ehrling . In the 1950s and 60s the song was u. a. also played by Patti Page , Frank Sinatra , Eydie Gormé / Steve Lawrence , Pat Boone , Sammy Davis junior , Buddy Rich , Dave Pell , Urbie Green , Frank Capp , Louie Bellson , Mel Tormé / George Shearing and the Dutch Swing College Band .
