The IBSA Institut Biochimique SA based in Massagno is an internationally active Swiss pharmaceutical company . The Swiss stock corporation develops, produces and sells active ingredients and drugs in the fields of sterility treatment , rheumatology , sports medicine , dermatology and pulmonology . The IBSA Institut Biochimique is increasingly concerned with the development of pharmacotherapeutic systems with complex mechanisms of action that require dosage forms that are sophisticated in terms of formulation .

The company, which has several locations in the area around Lugano in the canton of Ticino, as well as subsidiaries in Italy, Slovakia, Turkey, Hungary and China, employs around 1,000 people and generated sales of around 300 million Swiss francs in 2006.

history

The company was founded in 1945 by three Swiss scientists and initially focused on the Swiss market. A management buy-out that took place in 1985 , the strategy of using new dosage forms to improve their application, therapeutic efficiency and tolerability, and international expansion led to a surge in growth from the 1990s onwards. New production facilities were opened, subsidiaries established abroad, acquisitions made and new active ingredients and drugs introduced.
