IG Blech is a 20-piece street action music band from Berlin . The repertoire includes rhythmically inspired music from all over the world and is referred to by the band itself as HeavyMessingWorldMusic .

The classic marching band formation (4 trumpets, 4 trombones, tuba, Helikon, baritone saxophone, flute, clarinet, soprano, alto, tenor saxophone, percussion) is gender - equal occupied. IG Blech sees itself as a permanent institution of the Berlin off-culture scene and supports z. B. refugee initiatives, street parties and socio-political manifestations. It comes from the left-wing alternative scene in Berlin that emerged from the 1968 movement .

Band history

The group was founded in the mid-1970s as "Rotes Signal" and had its first appearance on New Year's Eve 1974 in front of Max and Moritz in Oranienstrasse in Berlin-Kreuzberg . It initially belonged to the Communist Party of Germany (structural organization) (KPD-AO), a Maoist K group , and played almost exclusively as a march formation on the demonstration marches of this organization. In the field of tension of the social disputes of this time and strongly influenced by the so -called radical left wind orchestra , a European and culture-oriented approach to music soon developed. In 1988, with the support of the Berlin Senate Administration ( Senate Diepgen II ) , the band carried out the four-day “Blechreiz” festival in West Berlin , at which 300 musicians from all over Europe met and played together. Concert tours to European (including Italy , Great Britain , France , GDR , Hungary ) and non-European countries (including Mexico , Costa Rica , Panama , Cuba , Trinidad & Tobago ) followed. The band performed at various cultural festivals, including the Beaucaire Festival and the Carnival de Nice, the Fête de la Musique 1997 and the anniversary celebrations of the radio station SFB4 Radio MultiKulti FM 106.8 .

The music from IG Blech was used in several film productions and a. Löwenzahn , Peter and the Magic Lamp , the ZDF production Life in the exclusion zone from December 25, 2014, TV election campaign spots of the Alternative List 1988 , in the theater production are waiting for g and in Rosas Welt , a documentary about Rosa von Praunheim from November 24 2012.

Music genre

Over the years, the formation expanded its musical program. Today, concerts with audience animation, carnival parades , street parties and anniversary celebrations are on the program. The music includes Serbian brass , Brazilian samba , African groove , calypso , funk , Neapolitan tarantella , film music and Yiddish klezmer . The band still plays, as in the 1970s and 1980s, at political demonstrations and traditionally on May 1st in Kreuzberg , but is now also associated with popular music.
