IIHF Continental Cup 2020/21
The IIHF Continental Cup 2020/21 is the 24th event of the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF discharged competition are. It begins on October 16, 2020, the superfinal will take place from January 8 to 10, 2021. A total of 20 teams from as many European countries take part in the seven tournaments.
Qualification and mode
One team per country takes part in the Continental Cup, whereby the countries of the founding leagues of the CHL do not participate (Sweden, Finland, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Germany, Austria). As a rule, the national champions are registered if they do not take part in the CHL. For the first time since 2010/11 a team from Lithuania will take part again.
The mode has been shortened compared to previous years. In the first round, eight teams play four teams in two four-way tournaments for the second round. Twelve teams are set for this. In the second round, the 16 teams play four participants in four rounds of four for the final tournament. The earlier third round is not applicable.
The winner of the Continental Cup receives the right to start the CHL 2021/22.
