It has subsidiaries in Germany, France and Romania that develop, manufacture and sell turntable ladders and other fire fighting vehicles, as well as subsidiaries that sell the range of the parent company Iveco in Germany.

Company history

Iveco Magirus AG has its origins in the truck, bus and fire fighting vehicle manufacturer Magirus , which was founded in 1865 and taken over by Humboldt-Deutz (today: Deutz AG) in 1936 . Deutz continued commercial vehicle production under the Magirus-Deutz brand . In 1974 Deutz founded the company Magirus-Deutz AG in order to outsource the business area at the turn of the next year and bring it into the new company Iveco . From January 1975 the company Magirus-Deutz AG belonged to 100 percent of Iveco AG, which in turn belonged to 80 percent to Fiat . The remaining 20 percent in Iveco was held by Deutz until 1980, after which Fiat was the sole owner of Iveco and thus also of Magirus-Deutz AG. In 1983 Magirus-Deutz AG was renamed Iveco Magirus AG. The fire protection division was spun off into the subsidiary Iveco Magirus Brandschutztechnik GmbH in 1996 .

The euro crisis led to a sharp decline in demand for commercial vehicles. In 2009 alone, Iveco Magirus AG's orders fell by 56 percent. Since the production capacities were not being used to full capacity, short-time working was introduced in February 2009 and continued in 2012. That is why the Fiat Group decided in May 2012 to close five Iveco plants in Europe and to relocate commercial vehicle production from Ulm to Madrid. On August 3, 2012, the last truck was built in Ulm with an Iveco Stralis . The development and conversion of the truck sector remained in Ulm. 300 jobs were cut through partial retirement and voluntary termination agreements, the rest of the 1500 jobs affected were distributed to other areas of the Ulm site at the end of August.

In 2013, a new fire truck production facility started in the former truck production facility. 1000 employees have been working in fire protection since then (previously 400).
