Ian Paul Livingston, Baron Livingston of Parkhead (born July 28, 1964 in Glasgow ) is a Scottish manager and Minister for Foreign Affairs in the United Kingdom .

Early years and personal

Ian Livingston comes from a Jewish family with Polish and Lithuanian roots who immigrated to Scotland 120 years ago. The family owned a company producing flight jackets and police uniforms . Livingston's father was a family doctor in the Glasgow neighborhood of Parkhead and the first of the family to attend university. Livingston, the youngest of four siblings, attended Kelvinside Academy and won a stock market competition advertised by the Royal Bank of Scotland , in which he virtually tripled £ 10,000 in ten months . He studied economics at the University of Manchester .

In 1989 Livingston married his current wife, Debbie, whom he met at university. The couple has two children.

Professional career

After graduating from college at the age of 19, Livingston trained as an accountant with the accounting firm Arthur Andersen and was appointed chief accountant by The Independent newspaper . He then moved to Bank of America and private equity -Unternehmen 3i . In 1991 he went to the Dixons Group , after Stanley Kalms had noticed and was there at the age of 32 the youngest CFO of a company that in stock index FTSE 100 was listed. He played an important role in the founding of PC World magazine and the provider Freeserve .

After the sale of Freeservice , Livingston joined BT Group as Finance Director before becoming its retail CEO in 2005 and Chairman of the Board in 2008 . On June 19, 2013 it was announced that Livingston would be the new UK Minister for UK Trade & Investment , succeeding Lord Green . On July 12, 2013, he was promoted to Life Peer with the title Baron Livingston of Parkhead , of Parkhead in the City of Glasgow , and has been a member of the House of Lords ever since .
