Ian Worthington

Ian Worthington (born March 19, 1958 in Lytham St Annes , Lancashire ) is a British - Australian ancient historian .

Ian Worthington studied at the Universities of Hull (BA 1979) and Durham (MA 1981 with PJ Rhodes ) in England and at Monash University in Melbourne ( Ph.D. 1987 with JR Ellis). He then worked in Australia at the University of New England (1988–93) and University of Tasmania (1993–97). Since 1998 he has taught in the USA as a professor of ancient history at the University of Missouri in Columbia (Missouri) .

Worthington has dealt with Alexander the great in several works , whereby he generally tends to a rather distant or negative assessment.

Since 2004 he has been Editor in Chief of Brill's New Jacoby .
