The Igelstäubling or Igelbovist ( Lycoperdon echinatum ) is a mushroom from the family of mushroom relatives (Agaricaceae).

features

The fruit body is spherical with a pointed base, up to 6 cm in diameter, of a fox-red-brown color. It is covered with light yellow-brown, up to 0.5 cm long and in clusters of three or four standing, curved soft spines , later these fall off and leave a reticulate pattern on the surface. The pulp is white when young, later browning, and finally turns into dark brown spore dust , which is released through an opening at the top.

Food value

Edible young as long as the inside is colored white.

Occurrence

From July mainly on calcareous soils in deciduous forests , especially under beeches . The fungus is rare.
