Ignatius Ferdinand von Vogelius , baptismal name Ferdinand Maria Caspar Wilhelm Ignatius Johannes Nepomuk Joseph von Vogelius (born August 30, 1740 in Paderborn ; † June 26, 1784 in Worms ) was a baron, Elector of Cologne Privy Councilor , heir to Pömbsen and on Gut Wandschicht ( Salzkotten ) as well as co-regent of the Wattenheim rule in the Palatinate .

Live and act

The Vogelius family comes from the Duchy of Westphalia and was accepted into the imperial nobility on September 10, 1707 under the name "Vogelius von Schildeck" .

Ignatius Ferdinand von Vogelius was the son of the Prince-Bishop of Paderborn Vice Chancellor and later Judge of the Reich Chamber Court Gerhard Georg Wilhelm von Vogelius and his wife Maria Theresia Sophia von Parmentier, who came from Wetzlar. He was baptized in the Marktkirche in Paderborn . The father received the knightly nobility in 1744 and the title of baron in 1758.

According to the epitaph, Ignatius Ferdinand von Vogelius was the Electoral Cologne Privy Councilor and of this state also as an assessor - d. H. as judge - presented at the Reich Chamber of Commerce; however, refused his appointment to Wetzlar .

On November 5, 1771, the Freiherr married in Wattenheim (west of Worms) Helena Kunigunde Auguste von Blumencron, heir to the local lord Jakob Christoph Peter von Blumencron and his wife Maria Anna Vogelius von Schildeck. Ignatius Ferdinand von Vogelius became a co-lord in Wattenheim, a pawn loan that the Kurmainzer Oberfeldkriegsommissar Franz Georg von Blumencron (son of Maximilian Adam von Blumencron ) bought from Count Philipp Ludwig von Leiningen-Westerburg after 1692. The bride's mother came from the same family as Ignatius Ferdinand himself. After his marriage, the two daughters Maria Anna Friederica von Vogelius (born August 22, 1775) and Maria Agnes Carolina von Vogelius (born August 3, 1778) were born.

As co-local lord in Wattenheim, Ignatius Ferdinand von Vogelius laid the foundation stone in 1772 for the extension of the town's simultaneous church (today a Protestant church). In 1784 the baron died in Worms and was buried in the old Dominican church, which no longer exists. When it was demolished at the beginning of the 19th century, its magnificent coat of arms epitaph came from there to the Liebfrauenkirche , where it is still located today. According to the inscription, it was donated by the wife and two children. The date of death on the tombstone differs from the entry in the church register and is apparently incorrect.

One of the nephews of Ignatius Ferdinand von Vogelius (son of his sister Maria Anna) was Karl Klemens von Gruben (1764–1827), auxiliary bishop of Cologne and administrator of the diocese of Hildesheim .
