The Ihering ant slip ( Myrmotherula iheringi ) belongs to the genus Myrmotherula within the ant bird family (Thamnophilidae) .
The species occurs in the western Amazon basin in Brazil , Peru and in the extreme northwest of Bolivia .
The distribution area includes tropical or subtropical moist lowland forest, terra firme and transition zones up to 400 m height.
The type epithet refers to Hermann von Ihering .
features
The bird is 8 to 10 cm tall and weighs between 7 and 9 g. The tail is moderately short. The male is dark gray on the upper side with a hidden white interscapular spot, black elytra with white tips. Throat, upper chest area and middle of the lower chest area are black, the rest of the underside is gray. The female has a pale blue-gray upper surface, a whitish throat and a pale yellow-brown underside. Fledglings resemble the females, but with patchy black throats.
Geographic variation
The following subspecies are recognized:
- M. i. heteroptera Todd , 1927 - southeastern Peru, Brazil in the southwestern Amazon basin and northwestern Bolivia
- M. i. iheringi Snethlage, E. , 1914, nominate form - Amazon basin in Brazil
- M. i. oreni Miranda et al , 2013 - West Brazil ( Acre ) and North West Bolivia ( Departamento Pando )
voice
The singing is described as a series of intense, downward-pointing tones of equal length with constant speed and pitch.
Way of life
The food consists of insects , probably also spiders , which are hunted individually, in pairs or in family groups, also in mixed hunting communities, preferably at 3 to 10 m above the ground.
The breeding season is not known.
Hazardous situation
The stock is not considered to be at risk ( least concern ).
