Ilya Srubar

Ilja Srubar (born August 6, 1946 in Teplice-Šanov , Czechoslovakia ; actually Ilja Šrubař ) is a Czech sociologist who taught sociology at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg from 1993 until his retirement in 2009 .

Life

Srubar studied philosophy , sociology and history at the University of Prague and the University of Frankfurt . He received his doctorate in Frankfurt am Main in 1974. From 1974 to 1993 he worked as a research assistant , later as a research assistant , at the University of Konstanz . There he completed his habilitation in 1987 in sociology. After visiting professorships at the University of Prague (1991) and at the Humboldt University of Berlin (1992), he was Professor of Sociology at the University of Erlangen- Nuremberg from 1993 to 2009 .

Srubar's work focuses on sociological theory, cultural sociology , sociology of knowledge as well as the history of sociology and sociology of Eastern Europe .
