Illusion was a British band in the 1970s. They played classical music- oriented progressive rock with lush keyboards and the crystal clear voice of singer Jane Relf.

history

In 1976 Keith Relf and his sister Jane , Jim McCarty , Louis Cennamo and John Hawken, the original line-up of the band Renaissance , were planning a reunion. But the then singer and guitarist Keith Relf died before the project could be implemented in this form. As a result, Jim McCarty, who played drums with the Yardbirds and Renaissance, took over the acoustic guitar and some of the vocals. The new band's drummer was Eddie McNeill, with John Knightsbridge on electric guitar. However, since the band Renaissance continued to exist with a completely different line-up, a different name had to be chosen. The original Renaissance was now an illusion, after the second Renaissance album of the same name . Illusion released two albums in 1977 and 1978, a third was planned, but the band broke up because of disagreements over creative direction and the emerging contempt for progressive rock by the growing punk movement .

In 1990, Enchantered Caress was released. It contains demo recordings from 1979 for a planned third album, as well as Keith Relf's last recording before his death in 1976.

2001 Jane Relf, McCarty, Hawken and Cennamo recorded the album Through the Fire with additional musicians . It appeared under the band name Renaissance Illusion.
